AdSense - Increase Your Profits Through Optimization

Four factors effect the profitability of AdSense ad units. Many of these factors are within your control. The following article will provide optimization tips for maximizing your income.

Ad Location

The location of each of your ad units is important to their overall performance. The best location for an ad is "above the fold". Visitors should be able to see your ad before they scroll. Specifically, your first ad unit should be placed on the left side of the page, under the title, and before the content. A good secondary location is at the bottom of the web page, Telecoustic following the article. Visitors, after reading your article, will consider what they would like to do next. If you place an ad directly under the article, they may click on your ad block to navigate to an advertisers website.

Ad Formats

Google offers a variety of ad formats, though some perform better than others. As a rule, the wider formats that are easier to read, outperform their narrower counterparts. The best AdSense ad formats include the Medium Rectangle, the Large Rectangle, and the Wide Skyscraper. Any other ad formats should only be considered when space is limited.

Ad Colors

AdSense ad colors should be colors that blend well with your website. Borders should be eliminated, and blue links are highly recommended. These considerations will not only improve click-through-rate (CTR), but it will give your website a more appealing overall look and feel.

Focused Content

Google AdSense ads are contextual ads. Contextual ads are targeted ads that are selected and served by Google's automated systems based on the content displayed on your web pages. Their system scans the text of your web page for keywords, and then delivers advertisements related to your content. If your content is focused, your ads will be relevant. Try to limit yourself to one topic per article.
